Election Timeline

A Minimum of 90 days Before Election is Held

Have in place Election Rules that reflect all of the provisions required by the legal requirements for elections that became effective on January 1, 2020.

A Minimum of 30 days Prior to Nomination Deadline

Prepare and send membership proper notice (in accordance with Civil Code requirements) of necessary qualifications for running for the board. Provide the procedure and deadline for running.

A Minimum of 30 days Prior to Mailing Ballots

Provide membership notice of the candidates running and election meeting logistics. Notice must include Civil Code requirements such as member rights to verify accuracy, IDR procedures, etc.

A Minimum of 30 days Prior to Election Meeting

Prepare and mail ballots to membership in accordance with Civil Code procedures (e.g., secret ballot, double envelope process addressed to Election Inspector, etc.)

Hold Election
as Scheduled

Use an Independent Election Inspector to tally votes, report results, and store ballots for a minimum one-year period.

Within 15 days of the Election

Provide membership notice of election results.
